Blueberries for Sal - Robert McCloskey
Rating: 7/10
I liked the art, the story, and the general concept. A small problem is that this has too many words per page for our 3 month old, so I can't really finish the book without some fidgeting and possibly screaming, which kills the vibe a little. The pacing is otherwise solid though. Biggest issue, the story is really predictable - yeah, yeah, it's a kids book, but I saw everything coming a mile away.
Still, it's a classic. I think it holds up pretty well as someone who has fond memories of blueberry picking with mom (no bear-related experiences for me, though). Sort of a cautionary tale, which is always good. I do always wonder (minor spoilers!): does Sal understand the bear? It's not clear.
