Moby Dick - Philip Graham

Rating: 5/10

This is an adaptation of Herman Melville's Moby Dick, which I am a medium fan of. Unfortunately I don't think that the full... literary force, or whatever, of Melville's work quite translates to children's picture books. The book nails the original plot, but the core story of Moby Dick just isn't that great, isn't funny, etc. There's a lot of grappling with the nature of evil and class/status that's not really a great fit for this new genre and that's really what speaks to me about the original. I did enjoy the art, and it definitely captures Ahab's craziness, but there's just a lot more to the full length novel.

Disclosure: this was received for free from the author and we'll donate it to our library (if they take it).
